How is Disney’s Mulan perceived in China?

Some people think it is the WORST Mulan EVER…

This is the rating on an app recommended by China for film and television.

Actually this score is way too low, but it’s reasonable.

Here are some reasons:

  1. A phoenix appears behind Hua Mulan at every turn. Various supporting roles continue to emphasize the phoenix. It seems that they want to emphasize that Mulan should be reborn from the fire like a phoenix? But Mulan has almost no growth in the whole movie, not to mention the time when the phoenix appeared is not related to Mulan’s growth node. This is a story based on Chinese histry, not a Fairy Tale. Even though it is a film, please respect the history.

2. Some of the make up in actresses is Geisha Style. (geisha is a Japanese performance artist) .
The details are not good enough. Although I heard that Disney has invested 200 million US dollars, it still disappoints the Chinese audience.

 3. Compared with the original animation version, the reason why the live-action movie has become so empty and unhuman is still in the design of Mulan’s character. You feel that Mulan in the movie trains very hard, and She has better Kung Fu. From the very beginning, she was a master of martial arts. She was the strongest soldier when she first entered the barracks. He has no shortcomings, and even a small shortcoming can be overcome immediately. It’s literally, what are you doing, writing people or creating gods? It feels that ordinary people can only look at Mulan from a distance but not close. Looking up close is blasphemy. This character has lost the complexity of the character in the animation that is both a cute little girl and a powerful heroine, and there is no gradual growth process.

Westerners haven’t seen Chinese Kung Fu very much. Have Chinese people not seen it much since they were young? It’s not weird to see the beautiful martial arts postures by flying over the wall. The actions taken in Mulan’s movies are really mediocre.

The Chinese people’s review about this movie is very terrible, I don’t think many people will go to the cinema to watch it.

 3. Mushu disappeared.
